Recent heavy snowfall in the French Alps has meant that some of the resorts in Haute-Savoie are opening their pistes to skiers this weekend, one of the earliest starts to the ski season in recent years.
Normally the pistes are officially open mid-December and in a good year they may start to run the lifts from the first weekend in December. However this year the French Alps have already had a good coverage of snow and the resorts of Temperatures are expected to plummet again on Sunday the 25th and this should bring more snow to the slopes and ensure that there is plenty of the white stuff around for early season skiers and Christmas week.
